Project Introduction

Evaluation of structural integrity and durability was conducted for a 60-meter high cable-stayed meteorological mast, including its foundations and associated structures. This facility holds paramount importance in fulfilling the Health, Safety, and Environmental standards governing nuclear power plant operations, as mandated by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC), and UAE Federal Nuclear regulators. With a history exceeding 12 years, regulations stipulate annual assessments to ensure the facility's functionality, structural integrity, and stability. WSP, serving as the project's environmental consultant, subcontracted VCS to undertake the requisite testing and reporting for the facility.

Project Scope 

Utilizing the expertise of VCS engineers alongside tower specialists, we conducted a comprehensive assessment of the steel tower's integrity. This involved evaluating its current corrosion status, measuring the tension of the stay cables, and assessing the durability of the concrete foundations. Our approach employed various non-destructive testing (NDT) techniques to ensure a thorough examination.

Project Solution

The nuclear industry demands strict adherence to health and safety protocols, compounded by the complexities of working at elevated heights, necessitating specialized equipment and certifications. VCS meticulously conducted inspections and testing in complete accordance with regulatory standards.
